Requirements for Admission
Special Note!
All required documents must be original or certified.
  1. You must be 16.5 years or older when you arrive to start your studies at Foothill. If you are under 18, your parents or guardians must sign and return the Underage Consent Form. An I-20 will not be issued until this form is completed and submitted to our office.   You must be 16.5 years or older and have graduated from high school by the time you arrive to begin your studies at Foothill.

  2. Complete, sign and return by mail the International Student Application. International students cannot submit their application to Foothill online.

Name and address: Make sure to write your name exactly as it appears on your passport. Your foreign address must be your permanent residence in your home country. Do not list a post office box number for a foreign address. If you want us to mail your acceptance packet to an address other than your permanent home address, please include a note with your application.

  3. Submit an official English proficiency exam score or verification that you have completed a specified level of our partner language schools.

  4. Submit original or certified English translations of your transcripts from secondary school or high school, and any other college or university attended.

Important Considerations for High School Applicants:
    • The minimum education requirement for admission to Foothill is completion of 12 years of schooling or an equivalent. Please note that community colleges in California do not offer a high school completion program.

    • Successful completion of at least 5 courses in the O Level with an IGCSE/GCSE certificate is enough for admission to Foothill. Preliminary examination results or school reports (predictions) will be accepted for provisional admission with your application.

    • If you are applying during your final year of school, you can submit your transcripts up to the pre-final year and the first term of the final year. You must submit your final year transcript when it becomes available or when you arrive to Foothill.

    • SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and AP courses (Advanced Placement) are not required for admission to Foothill.

  5. Submit an original bank letter dated within the last 6 months. The letter should be printed on bank letterhead with an official signature, and must verify that you or your sponsor can demonstrate a good account history and have at least $17,498.00 USD available for the first year of your educational expenses. Refer to the current estimated expenses in the Costs section.

  6. Submit a non-refundable $50.00 USD application fee. Please make a payment by international money order or a bank draft (payable through a U.S. branch) to Foothill College. Or download a credit card authorization form here. Cash is not accepted.

  7. Submit a recent photograph (see application) and a copy of your passport (name page).

  8. Recommendation letters and personal essays are welcomed, but not required.

All of the above mentioned documents must be mailed to the following address by the application deadline. We strongly recommend that you send your application packet using a courier service such as FedEx or DHL.

If you need more information about our admissions requirements, look at the Frequently Asked Questions section first.

Acceptance Notification
After we receive all of the original required documents, we will notify you within 5-7 days of your acceptance.

If any documents are missing, you will be notified by e-mail. Please note that Form I-20 will not be issued until all original or certified copies of your documents are received (photocopies, fax submissions and scanned documents are not sufficient).

We will send your official acceptance packet by international courier to the mailing address that you provided on the application form. If you are working with an advising agent who submits your application and you want the acceptance packet with the Form I-20 mailed to you instead of your agent, you should include a note with your application form. If you do not hear from us within 2 weeks after the International Student Office receives your application materials, please check the status of your application with our International Admissions Coordinator at foothillinternational@foothill.edu or at 1-650-949-7293.
