Art History (2009-2010)Foothill College art programs prepare students for upper division study at other institutions and provide fundamental training in art skills and concepts. Art faculty are intensely involved in their disciplines and are professionally dedicated to promoting each student's understanding of the place of art in history. Career OpportunitiesThe study of Art History provides the student with an awareness of art, a heightened sensitivity to art-related issues, and the ability to think critically about art/art history. Knowledge of Art History engenders a heightened understanding of history, a familiarity with the major issues in human cultural development, and exposure to the artistic expressions of varied cultures and civilizations. Career opportunities include the following: college professor, teacher, arts administrator, museum/gallery curator, corporate art advisor, museum docent, slide librarian, consultant on historical style for film and TV production, museum conservator, historical conservationist, art critic, tour guide, travel consultant, research assistant, and art dealer. Units required for Major: 48Units required for Certificate: 18 - 48 Associate Degree Requirements: • English proficiency: ENGL 1A, ESL 26 or equivalent. Program Type(s):• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 105 or equivalent. A minimum of 90 units required to include: • All General Education requirements • Core courses (36 Units) • Support courses (minimum 12 Units) • Electives & other graduation requirements as appropriate. NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all Core and Support courses for the Degree or Certificates. AA = Associate in Arts Degree. Additional Information:CA = Certificate of Achievement. NOTE: One to two years of French or German is strongly recommended for students intending to continue in Art History at a 4-year institution.
