Business International Studies (2009-2010)In a world of increasing interdependence, there is a growing need to provide the basic foundation and employment skills in the special areas of international business and trade. Foothill's goal is to prepare students to function effectively in the global community with a special emphasis on Pacific rim and basin countries, Europe, and those countries interacting directly with the Western United States. Units required for Major: 51This program combines appropriate courses in Business, Economics, foreign language, Geography, History, Political Science and cross-cultural comparisons. The focus of this program is on the business operations level for transfer students or students pursuing new careers, for experienced business people in local multinational corporations wanting to improve and expand their capabilities in international business and trade, for exchange students from foreign countries working for U.S. corporations abroad, and for the general public to become familiar with diverse cultures, global issues, business and trade considerations in addition to foreign language skills for improved communication and understanding. Units required for Certificate: 23-51 Associate Degree Requirements: • English proficiency: ENGL 1A, ESL 26 or equivalent Program Type(s):• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 105 or equivalent A minimum of 90 units required to include: • All General Education requirements • Core courses (28 Units) • Support courses (23 Units) • Electives & other graduation requirements as appropriate. NOTE: Basic Foreign Language Requirement: Any Foreign Language (Level 3 or Equivalent). NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade. 55% of all coursework must be completed at Foothill College. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all Core and Support courses for the Degree or Certificates. AA = Associate in Arts Degree. Additional Information:CA = Certificate of Achievement. CCC = Career Certificate. NOTE: Students having difficulty attaining an A.A. Degree because of timing or availability of classes should consult with a counselor to submit a petition for course substitution.
