Chinese (2009-2010)The goal of the Associate in Arts Degree in Chinese is to prepare students to transfer with a major in Chinese and to prepare professionals who already have college degrees to work with Chinese businesses. Career OpportunitiesThe study of Mandarin Chinese is an excellent choice for students wishing to enter such professions as international business and technology, international relations, travel advising, airline careers, court reporting, or translating. There are also positions available for those who continue into graduate work in teaching and civil service and with companies which have branches in, or trade with, Taiwan, China, and other Chinese speaking areas. Chinese is also an excellent tool for those planning to travel extensively. Units required for Major: 30Units required for Certificate: 15-30 Associate Degree Requirements: • English proficiency: ENGL 1A, ESL 26 or equivalent. Program Type(s):• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 105 or equivalent. A minimum of 90 units required to include: • All General Education requirements • Core courses (30 Units) • Other graduation requirements as appropriate. NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all Core and Support courses for the Degree or Certificates. AA = Associate in Arts Degree. Additional Information:CCC = Career Certificate. NOTE: Students should check with the transfer institution for any additional required courses.
