Photography 2009-2010 |
The mission of the Photography and Digital Imaging Department at Foothill College is to provide the finest of instruction in the use of traditional and contemporary photographic techniques for the vocational and avocational student. Majoring in photography with an emphasis in traditional or digital imaging will provide the student with basic aesthetic principles as well as an extensive range of practical photographic techniques needed for college transfer, entry into the photographic workplace, or for artistic expression.
Course work includes black and white processing and printing, digital imaging, color photography, studio lighting, experimental and non-silver processes, zone system techniques, and portfolio preparation. Within the two emphases, students will be encouraged to develop personal, expressive style in addition to achieving technical excellence. |

| Fine art photography, digital imaging, laboratory management, editorial photography, advertising and corporate photography, sales, studio and wedding photography, photojournalism (magazine, newspaper, newsletter, etc.), free-lance photography, nature, travel and stock photography, graphic arts, education, commercial printing and reproduction, aerial and underwater photography. |

Associate Degree Requirements: |
| The Associate Degree can be obtained in either of two areas: Traditional Photography or Digital Imaging. These degrees require the following:
• English proficiency: ENGL 1A, ESL 26 or equivalent.
• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 105 or equivalent.
A minimum of 90 units required including:
• All General Education requirements
• Core Courses (23 Units)
• the Traditional Photography, Option #1 or Digital Imaging Option, #2 (12 Units)
• Electives (5 Units)
• Other graduation requirements as appropriate.
NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all Core and Support courses for the Degree or Certificates. |
