Foothill College has a long-standing commitment to excellence and accessibility of education for all students. The DRC offers academic support for students with disabilities. The program promotes student independence and works to make campus classes, facilities and services accessible through specialized classes, reasonable accommodation and advocacy and disability awareness activities.

Who can participate?

A student with a disability is a person enrolled at the college who has a verified impairment which limits one or more major life activities and which imposes an educational limitation. This occurs when the limitation prevents the student from fully benefiting from classes, activities, or services offered by the college to non disabled students, without specific additional support services or instruction.

In order to be eligible for services or specialized instruction, a student with a disability must have an impairment which is verified by a physician or other appropriate professional. Documentation must be on file in the DRC office before services can begin.

Mon. & Tues.: 8 am to 7 pm
(including evening Test Proctoring).
Wed. & Thur.: 8 am to 5 pm.
Friday: 8 am to 3 pm.
Open during lunch.

You will be asked to fill out an Application For Services, a Consent For Release Of Information, a Medical Verification, Educational Accommodations, and other appropriate forms (Student Educational Contract). You can print these forms out and have them completed before your first meeting with the DRC Coordinator. The above linked files are in Adobe Acrobat PDF Format.

You will also meet with the DRC Counselor or Coordinator to discuss goals, accommodations and services. Once a student is enrolled in DRC, he/she is placed on our mailing list and is automatically contacted for priority registration.

What programs are offered?

Services for Students with Learning Disabilities: Foothill provides services for students with verified learning disabilities. If you suspect that you have a learning disability, you can consult a Foothill College learning disability specialist to determine if a comprehensive learning disability assessment is needed. When a learning disability is verified, special ongoing services such as academic and vocational counseling, early registration, note-taking and extended time for examinations are available. Classes offered include study skills, compensatory techniques and writing skills. To schedule a consultation, call (650) 949 7017.
Computer Access Center: Instruction and support in the use of adaptive computer technology for students with disabilities.
Transition to Work: A one year vocational readiness program designed for students with disabilities who can function independently on a college campus but ho do not have the ability to succeed in the regular college academic program.
Deaf Services: Support services for the deaf and hard of hearing students.
