Women's Basketball Team Fall 20152015-16 News

Foothill Remains Perfect in League Play, Defeats Mission
In a game for first place, Foothill defeated Mission College at home Wednesday January 27, to remain undefeated in league play.  The Owls were lead by sophomore post Angie Reid with 22 points as well as freshman Tyiteyana Jefferson and AJ Leasau with 12 pts each. The win brings the Owls to 17-5 on the season, 6-0 in league play.

Foothill Collects 5th straight League Win
After jumping out to a 50-17 lead vs Cabrillo on Friday January 22, the Owls cruised to a final score of 86-47. The Owls held Cabrillo scoreless the entire second quarter while Foothill had 5 players in double figures for the game. The Owls were lead by freshman post player Essence Johnson with 21 points and sophomore guard Tallia Schivo with 18 points including 6 three pointers!  Lauren Lete had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Breanna Salary also chipped in 6 assists and AJ Leasau had 10 points.

Foothill Defeats Hartnell
With a strong defensive performance, Foothill held Hartnell to less than 20 points each half and won by a final score of 69 to 39.   The Owls were lead by sophomore guard Breanna Salary with 15 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds and Angie Reid with 14 points and 8 rebounds. AJ Leasau added 10 points and Tyiteyana Jefferson lead all rebounders with 12.

Foothill defeats Gavilan
Foothill defeated Gavilan College by a final score of 86-45 on Wed Jan 20 to remain undefeated in league play. The Owls were lead by Tyiteyana Jefferson with 18 points, Lauren Lete with 17 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds and Angie Reid with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Foothill is at home vs Hartnell Wednesday Jan 15.

Owls Get 2nd League Win
The Owls defeated DeAnza College at their place by a final score of 59-44.  Foothill was lead by Angie Reid with 23 points 11 rebounds and 3 blocks and Lauren Lete with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Foothill Dominates Monterey 
The Owls opened up league play on Friday Jan 6th with a dominant 76-27 victory over Monterey Peninsula College. Foothill was lead by AJ Leasau with 16 points. Shania Ratliff had 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Lauren Lete had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.  Lira Ndifon lead all rebounders with 10. The Owls play next at De Anza.

Pre-Season Update
With the 2015-16 tip-off right around the corner, Foothill knows they have their work cut out for them to achieve their goals this season. But a Fearless mindset to persevere through all challenges has the Owls setting their sights on another Championship Season. There is a great deal of hope and promise for the upcoming year with the addition of two sophomore transfers, Lauren Lete and Tallia Schivo and a group of talented freshman: AJ Leasau, Essence Johnson, Tyiteyana Jefferson, Lira Ndifon and Erica Ginn. The Owls open the season on the road in the Coca Cola Classic and return for their home opener against Chabot on Tuesday Nov. 17 at 5:30 pm.

Foothill Undefeated 2015 League Champions - Coast Conference South

2015 Women's Basketball TeamFoothill wrapped up a perfect undefeated league season (10-0) with a win over Mission College on Friday, Feb 20. The Owls beat Mission by a final score of 81-67. Foothill finished with an overall 20-7 season record.

Freshman Angie Reid was named Coast Conference South MVP and Second Team All State.

Sophmores Rose Tahaafe and Leslie Tiongco were named First Team All- League. Kristin Williams, Shania Ratliff and Cristina Yamashiro earned Scholar Athlete Honors.

Foothill Finishes with the #1 Defense in the State

Throughout 26 games, Foothill held opponents to just 41.1 points per game and 27.6% shooting, with a defensive finish as first in the state out of 89 teams. Ventura was next, holding the opposing team to 47 ppg.

Craig Picks Up Her 400th Win

Returning this past July 2014 from a one year leave, Coach Jody Craig quickly rebuilt the Foothill program and picked up her 400th collegiate victory on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 as the Head Coach at Foothill.

Coach Craig hit the 400 career mark with only 151 losses, a 72% winning percentage over her 18 year career. In the last 5 years, Craig has a 163-33 coaching record (83%).  Coach Jody Craig was also named 2015 Coast Conference South - Coach of the Year.

20140724040712.jpgFormer OWL AJ NEWTON (2012-13) Earns All Conference Award
In her first season as a transfer from Foothill College to Colorado State, AJ Newton earned Second Team All Mountain West Conference Honors and helped lead her team to a 23-6 season record. AJ also was named to the Spring 2014 Academic All-Mountain West team.

While at University of Redlands, Goeser played a huge role as the Bulldogs' floor general throughout her two years with the squad. She collected All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) accolades both seasons, landing on the First Team in her final campaign. During her most recent season, Goeser ranked second among the Bulldogs in scoring with 13.2 points per game as one of two players to eclipse the double-digit mark. She also successfully ran the Maroon and Gray's offense by providing 4.5 assists per game to go along with an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.6. She accomplished this while competing for a team-leading 32 minutes per contest.

20140724050756.jpgFormer Owls in represent Foothill in the 2014 Division I- NCAA Tournament
Two former Foothill standouts, Raeshel Contreras (2010-12), and Addie Schivo (2010-11), now playing for University of South Dakota and University of Idaho respectively, had the opportunity to play in the 2014 Women’s NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament!

Raeshel hit the winning basket to help send the Coyotes into the Summit League Tournament Championship game against South Dakota State and ultimately to the Big Dance where they opened against Stanford.

Addie Schivo hit the winning free throws to help her team win the WAC Championship in 2013 and then Idaho won the WAC for the second year in a row to advance to the 2014 NCAA Tournament where they opened against Louisville.
