Owl's Finish the Season Strong

The season finished on a high note as the Foothill College Softball team hosted rival DeAnza on their Sophmore Day.  Sophomores Ana Olmos, Samantha Willis, Nadia Espinoza, Melissa Castle, Paige Madsen, and Jenae Hatton were joined by their parents, teammates, and coaches for a pregame ceremony on the field.  The game was just as memorable as Foothill came back in the bottom of the 7th inning winning on an Espinoza walk-off single with 2 outs giving the Owl’s a 4 to 3 win.

2009 Recruiting Class

Overall, the season was a successful one as the Lady Owls won their last 4 games and 5 out of their last 7 games as they played their way into 4th place in the Coast Conference North Division, finishing behind Ohlone, CSM, and Chabot.  While expectations were high for the 2009 squad, injuries to key positions prevented the Owls from making a run at the playoffs.  However, Foothill still managed to compete against the best teams in the area and swept conference games against rivals CCSF and DeAnza.

Individually, five players were recognized for their outstanding seasons.  The Owl’s Caitlin Agosti, Samantha Willis, Angie Larsen, Kylie Crandall, and Ana Olmos were each selected to All-Coast Conference Teams.  Agosti, a freshman SS out of Notre Dame Belmont, was awarded 1st team all-conference.  She batted .396 with 23 runs, 19 RBI, and finished in the top 10 in state with 23 walks.

Willis joins her as a 1st team all-conference player after being named 2nd team all-conference her freshman year.  Willis, an OF, batted .292 with 11 RBI and led the Owls in runs with 25 and stolen bases with 11.

Crandall, a freshman pitcher out of Branham, was selected 2nd team all-conference for the Owls.  Crandall finished with 9 wins and posted a 4.03 ERA finishing 2nd in the conference in strikeouts with 81, 22nd in the state in innings pitched with 165, and 12th in the state in complete games with 23.

Larsen, the Owl's other 2nd team all-conference selection, is a freshman second baseman out of Timpanogos in Orem, Utah.  She batted .262 with 18 runs, 14 RBI and finished the season with a .985 fielding percentage.

Olmos joins her teammates as the 5th player to be selected to the all-conference teamOlmos, a sophomore OF was named to the Honorable Mention team after being awarded 1st team all-conference as a freshman.  Olmos battled injuries most of the year while still managing to bat .261 while recording 16 runs, 14 RBI, and finished 7th in the state in triples with 5.

With the return of all-conference players Agosti, Larsen, and Crandall in addition to catcher Jessica Peralez (.491 OB %, 10 runs), 3B Raven Mullins (.419, 11 runs, 8 doubles, 21 RBI) and P Ryan McCann (medical redshirt), Foothill is ready to make a run at the playoffs in 2010.
