The Foothill College team celebrating after winning to move on to Final Four

Foothill College 2013 Season Recap

With a final record of 16 wins, 6 losses and 3 ties, it was another great year for the Foothill College women's soccer team. The team also made it to the California Community College "Final Four" for the first time in school history!

In the playoffs, Foothill beat #1 ranked Fresno with a score of 1-0 and #4 ranked Cosumnes River at a final score of 2-1. Coach Flannery said, "This was a special season for us. The girls were dedicated and very hard working from the very first practice. Each week the team improved and by the end of the season we were a tough team to beat. We finished ranked #17 in the country which was our first time being ranked top 20 in the country."

This year's team had many star players. Sophomore forward Brittany Squarcia had 18 goals and 10 assists, she led the Coast Conference in points. Sophomore Samantha Street, the team's Goalkeeper, was ranked #6 in the state. Sophomore center defender Gianna Bertana, one of the team's captains, led the team's defensive efforts. Overall the team was very young with 14 talented freshmen. Assistant Coach Alan Kute said, "Being a young talented team is exciting because we will have a whole year to coach these girls, hone their skills, and watch them continue to improve. Hopefully we will have another strong recruiting class and can repeat the success we had this year."

Foothill College soccer player highlight films
The Foothill College women's soccer team films every game each year and give the players the film after each game so they can review how they are playing. This also allows the players to make highlight films for friends, family and college coaches who they wish to be recruit by. Here are a few or our players highlight films. I will continue to update the highlight films.

Foothill College women's soccer team had a very exciting season. The team played against some of the top teams in California and proved once again that they can compete with anyone. The Coast Conference was very challenging this year yet Foothill College was still able to find a way to finish in first place. Foothill College has now won the league championship 4 of the last 5 years. This year's team was honored by winning a few all-league honors. Midfielder of the year went to Kelsey Burke, Defender of the year went to Korinne Estrada and GK of the year went Sandra Hjelmstierna. "All three players deserved these awards and we are very happy for them" said head coach Owen Flannery.

Foothill College wraps up 2012 with another great season

With one week to go our lady owls are in first place in league and have ended the season on fire winning or tying 13 of their last 15 games. This year's team has played many of the top teams in the State of California and even tied the number 1 team in northern California. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Foothill with a total of 16 freshmen, 7 of them are starters. The team also has 6 sophomores and 4 of them are regular starters. The team captains have really stepped it up this year and have welcomed all of the new players onto the team with open arms. The team environment has been very inclusive and fun thanks to the captains and their leadership. Foothill College has won the league championship 4 of the last 5 years and took 2nd place the only other time they didn't win it all. Coach Flannery said "This has been one of the best seasons of my life as a coach. This team is very dedicated, hard working, confident and positive with each other. I wish every team I have coached had this time of work rate. I really believe the sky is the limit for them in the playoffs this year." With only one week to go before the playoffs we wish the team tons of success.

Foothill College plays first scrimmage of the 2011 season against Menlo College

Foothill College played for the first time on the new soccer field. "The new complex is amazing. We have everything you could ever want. This new soccer complex will really help us play beautiful soccer this year." said assitant coach Ed Villalpando. The game was very evenly played with both teams playing good defense. In the first half of the game Owls freshman Bryanna Lopez had a nice break away and took a good shot but the Menlo GK made a great save. Both teams looked very dangerous on set plays as well. Coach Owen Flannery said, "I am happy with the way this game went. Our team played good today. They moved the ball well together, and at times, looked as if they had played together for years." The Owls play next against Cal State East Bay Next Tuesday.

Foothill College Finishes Incredible 2011 Spring Season

Foothill College recently finished an incredible spring season. First, Foothill College hosted Holy Names University; HNU is one of the best NAIA soccer programs in Northern California. Both teams play very entertaining soccer. Each team had numerous chances. It was great to see ex foothill College star GK, Tiffany Irizarry starting for HNU. Tiffany Irizarry the HNU GK played very well and kept FC from scoring.

Second, the FC team played San Jose State University, in Spartan Stadium. Coach Flannery said, "This was an amazing experience for our team. To get and opportunity to play a strong NCAA Div I program was very exciting for our team." FC played very well and was able to keep the score close even in the last few minutes of the game. SJSU was loaded with talent and again had an ex FC player, All American Stephanie Bales, played for SJSU. Coach Flannery said, "To me, I thought the play of the game was watching Stephanie Bales and Patty Vega battle it out 1 vs. 1 on the soccer field. Stephanie was great to watch, she was flashy and dynamic, she would need to be however to try and beat the leagues best defender in Patty Vega. The play ended with Patty having to make a last second slide tackle to save a goal for our team."

FC also had a few good chances especially a first half break away that just missed wide. The last game of the year was against NCAA Div I Cal Poly SLO. Cal Poly has a great team. They moved the ball well and were in great shape. After the first half it was 1 to 1. Brittany Huth made a great angle run from the left side of the field. Laura Angulo switched the field and then played a great through ball to Brittany. Brittany one touched it to the far post to score the goal. As the game went on it was nice to see the two teams battle. Cal Poly had more possession but FC played very tough defense and Mikaela Jakobsson the FC GK made some very nice saves.

We played each spring season game to give our players an opportunity to play at the top level, give our players another chance to get recruited, and lastly to give our sophomores a few great memories. It was wonderful to see how far our team has come and to see our players holding their own against some of the best players in the country.
