Dixie Macias
Now in his ninth year leading the Foothill Men's Tennis Program, Head Coach Dixie Macias has been named Coach of the Year by the Coast Conference three times. He began working with Owls tennis first as volunteer coach, then as an assistant coach for five years under the guidance of legendary Owls' Tennis Coach Tom Chivington, now retired, the architect of 13 state championships, and numerous Northern California and 26 league championships.
Prior to becoming the men’s coach, Macias was the Foothill College Women’s Tennis coach. Under his guidance, the squad garnered a league title and produced two All Americans.
He has coached junior players at regional, national and international levels. Some of those junior players—most notably Brad Gilbert—went on to attain All-American honors at their respective universities. In addition to coaching in the professional ranks, Macias has coached international tennis squads in Germany, Spain, Australia, Fiji and Tonga.
He has worked with tennis legends Tony Roche and John Newcomb in Australia, and completed the coaching program under the direction of Danny Sorribas (Argentina) at Sanchez-Casals Academia in Barcelona, Spain. Macias also attends the tennis coaches’ conference in New York during the annual U.S. Open.
A member of the Foothill College faculty since 1990, he is certified as a strength and conditioning specialist and personal trainer through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and is certified as a strength and conditioning tennis specialist by Pat Etcheberry.
A former U.S. Marine, Macias has served as a tennis representative for the Coast Conference League, and director for the Northern California and California State Men’s Tennis Championships.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from San Jose State University and master’s degree in education from Stanford University.
