1. Upon completion of the program the graduate will be a paramedic with outstanding clinical abilities who will provide a high level of compassionate patient care that is thoughtful and intelligent in its approach.
2. Graduates will perform as competent, entry-level EMT-Paramedics.

The program is designed to prepare students for employment as paramedics working for ambulance services, fire department agencies, fixed & rotary wing medical operations, and hospital emergency departments.

OPTIONAL ASSOCIATE DEGREE AND REQUIREMENTS:
An Associate degree is also available upon completion of the Certificate requirements and the Foothill College General Education requirements. We encourage prospective students to look into this option and consider long term career planning. Please call (650) 949-6950 for counseling information.
• English proficiency: ENGL 1A, ESL 26 or equivalent.
• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 105 or equivalent.
A minimum of 90 units required to include:
• All General Education requirements
• Certificate of Achievement (85.5 Units)
• BIOL 40A, B and C (15 Units)
• Electives & other graduation requirements as appropriate.

NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade and passed with a "C" or better in the recommended sequence. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all Core and Support courses for the Degree or Certificates. It is also recommended that the courses be taken in sequence.

Applicants will be considered for admittance to the program for the following September class. Applicants who have previously applied must submit a new application and accompanying materials. Applicants will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance by the 3rd week of June.

PREREQUISITES:
• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Current BLS (CPR) certification.
• Possess a current EMT-IA certificate or EMT-1 with transport module or equivalent.
• A minimum of six months full-time OR equivalent part-time experience with an EMS provider agency (960 hrs)
• Meet technical standards.
• MATH 220 or equivalent college level course within the past three years or placement into MATH 105 on the Foothill College placement test (Testing Office 650/949-6958)
• Eligible for ESL 25 or ENGL 110

NOTE: Physical examinations, immunizations, background screening, and drug testing may be required for hospital rotations and ambulance internships. Background screening and drug testing positive results could impact a student's chances of attending rotations or internship, completing the program requirements or gaining a license to practice upon graduation. The cost of required physical examinations, background screenings and drug tests will be paid by the student. Students accepted into the program will be provided with specific details.
