Dear Future Travel Careers Student:
It is my pleasure to tell you about our innovative Travel Careers Program, to send you our latest curriculum sheets and certificate requirements, and to welcome you in advance to our dynamic career classes.
Tourism continues to be one of the world's largest industries. Stimulating career opportunities include working for corporate or leisure travel agencies, tour operators, cruise ship companies, Internet travel companies, airlines, hotels & resorts, or starting your own independent home-based travel consulting business. The employment picture is excellent for all interested in acquiring the necessary skills, including mature persons, and those seeking re-entry or second careers. Many of our graduates have started their own successful home-based travel company.
Foothill's Travel Careers Program, established in 1973 as the first at a community college in Northern California, offers the most contemporary training available in the United States. The extensive curriculum includes 7 different courses using live SABRE software - giving our graduates an "edge" with employers. These computer courses are integrated with over 20 other courses concentrating on sales, destinations, cruises, and tourism. We also offer Destination Specialist courses developed by The Travel Institute and recognized by the travel industry worldwide. On-the-job internships can also be arranged through the program for interested students who meet minimum department requirements.
So, if you share a love and enthusiasm for the exciting world of travel, join us as soon as you can. The college is on the quarter system: FALL (mid-September to mid-December); WINTER (January to March); SPRING (April to June); plus an ACCELERATED SUMMER Session (late June to early August). Throughout the year our classes are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays. Most classes meet once a week.
You only need to decide WHEN you wish to go to work: after earning an Associate Degree in two years, or after earning a variety of Certificates of Achievement and/or Career Certificates, taking from four weeks (in summer) to nine months.
The price is right too: California residents pay very low tuition, plus basic fees and health insurance. If you are not a resident of California or are an international student, fees will be higher.
Whatever you decide, it is recommended that all beginning students register for TC 50 (2 units), which will give you an overview of the industry and its variety of career choices, as well as familiarize you with the special language and dynamics of tourism. It is offered in both live and online formats.
I hope this packet of information is helpful. For additional class information or counseling, please call us at 650-949-7263. You can also visit us on the web at: http://www.foothill.edu/bss/tc, or E-mail me at hacksharon@foothill.edu.
We are now located at the Middlefield Campus at 4000 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto, upstairs in the I building.
Thank you for your inquiry. I look forward to greeting you in class soon.
Sincerely,
Sharon Hack, Director
