Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
4 Units
Study of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) science and its applications to spatial data management. Assessment of vector and raster systems, scale, resolution, map projection, coordinate systems, georeferencing, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Discussion and analysis of uncertainty propagation with a GIS Modeling with GIS

Dynamic and Interactive Mapping
4.5 Units

Design and implementation of dynamic presentations for visualizing geographic information. Lab projects creating animated and multimedia presentations, and designing user-interfaces for interactive mapping systems. Two and one half hours lecture, six hours laboratory. Prerequisite: GEOG 12 and GEOG 52 or equivalent.

This course is suggested for students who have completed the core GIS coursework and are seeking more advanced training. Class will be held at San Jose State University and taught by Dr. Richard Taketa. More information about class meeting times will be posted later.

Foothill students should register for GEOG 73 before attending class. Late adds are based on the SJSU calendar and will not be accepted after September 11. For information on parking at SJSU go to http://www.sjsu.edu/parking/

Advanced Geographic Information Systems

Study of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) science and its applications to spatial data management. Data acquisition using GPS, digitizing and scanning techniques. Data management. Editing and verifying. Raster data manipulation and importing. Database management. Advanced queries and database manipulation. Prerequisite: GEOG12

Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing

Physical basis of remote sensing. Aerial photography and high resolution multi-band imaging. Satellite multi-band optical remote sensing. Other forms of remote sensing (RADAR, SAR, LIDAR). Applications of remote sensing.

Internship in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Student will be placed in 6 hour per week internship after consultation with instructor. Student must have successfully completed Geography 12 and 52 and have completed or be concurrently enrolled in Geography 56, 58 or 59.
