BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF MICHIKO HIRAMATSU
A native of Japan, Michiko Hiramatsu obtained an M. A. at Stanford University on a Fulbright scholarship. She went back to Japan to work at Asahi Broadcasting Corporation.
Dr. Hiramatsu began teaching Japanese at Foothill College in 1973. She was awarded a Teaching Excellence Award by the Associated Students of Foothill College for 1974-75. With a Title VII Fellowship from the U.S. Department of HEW, she completed her doctoral study at the University of San Francisco.
After a tough campaign to raise funds both in the U.S. and Japan, construction of the Japanese Cultural Center, to enhance students' cultural experience and to promote cross-cultural understanding, was completed in 1982 . Hiramatsu received the Innovator of the Year Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College.
