About Foothill College's Japanese Language Program
Learn Japanese with confidence!
The Japanese program focuses on functional competency -the ability to use the language, in real-world settings, in culturally-appropriate ways. The program provides communication-based curriculum materials and various innovative learning activities for developing proficiency-based stages of competency.
Brought into the mainstream of foreign language instruction in 1975, the program offers an AA degree in Japanese, with eight levels of degree-applicable courses. It also provides a certification-offering tutor training program. As a result a strong team of trained tutors support the program.
The Japanese Cultural Center, since its establishment in 1982, with an authentic tearoom and tea garden, has provided a real world Japanese physical environment for role playing with correct Japanese manners. The Center serves the community as a site for visiting scholars and master craftsmen, as well as for cultural and business events.
