About the Language Arts Division

The Language Arts Division is dedicated to developing the reading, writing, communication and critical thinking skills necessary for students to succeed in their academic classes and in the workplace; fostering global understanding and an appreciation for diverse cultures; and promoting in students a deeper understanding of themselves and others through literature.

The division has four course-specific departments, and four support programs. Students can earn academic certificates and enroll in specially offered classes, which are announced each quarter. Use the links at left for more information.

Ongoing Enrichment Programs
  • Puente: a national award-winning program that has helped thousands of students reach their dreams of college success;
  • Mfumo: a peer support program with emphasis on African American literature and writers; the program is currently on hiatus but we hope to activate it in the future.
