In-depth study and discussion of entertainment law as it applies to the emerging new media market and the music industry. Internet sales and distribution for new media, file sharing, licensing for the web, and digital copyright considerations. Promotional packages, web site development, delivery systems, career promotion strategies, contracts and touring. In-depth analysis of contracts and regulations/potential of starting an independent media production company, record label, or online retail site. Workshop course for beginning songwriters that focuses on basic songwriting styles and techniques. Over the course of the class different songwriting basic methods are presented. Students are assigned weekly songwriting projects. Class is appropriate for basic levels of songwriting competency.MUS 59 MUSIC PUBLISHING FOR SONGWRITERS
This course prepares the student to navigate the music publishing business by eliminating the legalese and explaining the business in everyday language. Class includes writing original songs for review. Active listening and constructive critiquing of original student compositions.
