Thursday, June 1
Keynote Speakers: Jane & Alexander Nakatani

Join Japanese–American parents Jane and Alexander Nakatani as they share a story of loss. After losing one son to murder and two sons to AIDS, the Nakatanis’ story is told in the book and film Honor Thy Children that illustrates their amazing transformation of loss and tragedy into hope and inspiration to create public awareness. Friday, June 2
Gay Film Festival: Rent

Rent, the musical that revolutionized Broadway comes to the big screen. A rock musical based on Puccini's classic opera La Boheme, Rent tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling with the AIDS epidemic, poverty, drugs, not selling their art, and trying to pay the rent. See the Pulitzer Prize-winning story about friends trying to “measure their lives in love.” Free refreshments.

Wednesday, June 7
Foothill Student Discussion: Out on Campus

Join members of Foothill’s Gay Straight Alliance for a discussion of the current state of lesbian/gay/bisexual and transgender acceptance on our campus. Hosted by Foothill Speech Instructor Shawn Townes and students enrolled in Foothill speech communication classes.

Time: 10:00 a.m.–Noon

Jen Kober: Comedian

Join us for a break from the serious with Jen's hilarious comedy. Her powerful performance weaves together a Southern-style musical tale of love lost at the buffet, road trip adventures at The Waffle House, and midnight mishaps at Wal Mart. She has performed a variety of comedians, including Damon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Wayne Brady, Kevin Pollack, Dana Carvey, Paul Provenza and Sinbad. Free refreshments.

Got Holes? Body Modification Within the Gay Community

A symposium addressing both the history of, and present controversy surrounding piercing and body modification pertaining to the gay community. This event will feature Fakir Musafar, who is regarded as the father of the modern body piercing movement. He will speak as well as address audience questions. This event may not be suitable for children. Co-sponsored by the Anthropology Club. Free refreshments.

Speech & Debate Team

We hear about controversial “gay” topics in the news, but it’s always being spun by politicians. Join us for this event where students from Foothill’s award-winning Speech & Debate Team will present material relevant to the LGBT community. Free refreshments.

Gay Film Festival: Connie & Carla

Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette star in Connie & Carla as two struggling Chicago dinner theater performers who accidentally witness a mafia hit. The pair subsequently hit the road and end up pretending to be men pretending to be women. Connie & Carla is the comedy that proves if you follow your dream, there's no telling what you'll become. Free refreshments.

2006 San Jose Gay Pride Festival & Parade “Loud & Proud”

Join the Gay Straight Alliance in marching in San Jose’s 31st Annual Gay Pride Parade. The day begins with the parade and continues with top entertainers performing throughout the day at the festival grounds. Parade check-in begins at 9 a.m. sharp. Parade begins at 11 a.m.

Wednesday, June 14
Gay Professional Panel

Ever wonder if gay professionals have different experiences in the work place than you have. Do they enter the same careers that you do? Do they receive the same treatment? Join us to discuss what it’s like for gay professionals in the real world. Foothill Speech Instructor Shawn Townes hosts the presentation.

Drag Contest & Plaza Party

Foothill students, faculty and staff compete in the 2nd annual Foothill College Drag Contest. Prizes will be awarded to all participants with big money for first, second and third place winners. Sign up at the Student Activities Office or with Stephanie Franco in the Student Development Center. Be part of Foothill's Summer Gay Day and celebrate diversity under the summer sun. Straight/Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer/ Questioning/Everybody is invited.

Religious Panel Discussion

Is your religion accepting of gays? What does your religion’s scripture or text actually say about homosexuality, acceptance and tolerance? Join us for a panel discussion on how different religions view homosexuality. Free refreshments.

Friday, June 16
Gay Film Festival: Brokeback Mountain

Winner of three Oscars, Brokeback Mountain is a sweeping epic that explores the lives of two young men, a ranch hand and a rodeo cowboy, who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection. The complications, joys and heartbreak they experience provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Free refreshments.
