Celebrate Cultural Diversity & Value of International Education

Support multiculturalism and global awareness on campus by participating in one or several events to commemorate International Education Week (IEW). Admission to most IEW events is free and the public is invited to attend. An annual initiative launched by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. Foothill College is proud to join colleges across the country to celebrate IEW to enhance a global perspective in campus life and strengthen mutual understanding.

IEW Events at Foothill College

International Food at the Foothill Cafe Multicultural cuisine will be available for purchase in the Foothill Cafe Nov. 13-16. International Art Contest Submissions are being accepted for the competition now through Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. Works will then be displayed in the Semans Gallery through Nov. 21. Foothill College students can submit hard copies of their work in person at the International Programs Office (Room 1933). Sorry, no digital content will be accepted. All Foothill students are eligible to participate. Work Specifications—Only one entry per participant will be accepted. The work can be a drawing, painting, photograph or combination of these that reflects your culture. It can be created with digital tools, but it must be presented in printed form. Digital manipulation of images is allowed. The work must be original material not presented in any other competition organized by Foothill and owned by the entrant. Every entry must be accompanied by a brief paragraph (no longer than 200 words) that explains how the work represents your culture. The maximum size is 2 ft x 2 ft. Offensive content is will be disqualified. Art works will be judged for cultural content, creativity, display of technical skills and presentation. Entries will be judged by a panel of faculty, staff and a student. All entries will be displayed in the Foothill Seamans Library. Photographs of all entries will be taken for marketing and promotional use and displayed on the International Programs Office's Facebook page ( during IEW. Winners will be announced Nov. 21 on the International Programs Office's Facebook page and ribbons will be placed on entries in the library. Cultural Performance Competition Tuesday, Nov. 13, noon-2 p.m., Campus Center Dining Room Kick off IEW by attending this performance competition. Watch cultural performances and cheer on your peers. Showcase your culture through music, song, dance, comedy or another medium. All preregistered participants will receive a thank-you gift, and the top three winners will receive prizes. Admission is free. Breaking the Stereotypes Country Fair Thursday, Nov. 15, Noon-1 p.m., Campus Center Dining Room The highlight of IEW, this event will introduce various countries around the world in a fair setting with tables displaying country-specific information, art, music and more. Test your cultural knowledge and take a part in the quiz for a chance to win prizes. Admission is free. Trampoline Dodgeball Event is Friday, Nov. 16, 5-6 p.m., Sky High Sports, 2880 Mead Avenue in Santa Clara. Cost is $10 per person. Advance registration required; register by Friday, Nov. 9, at noon in the International Office (Room 1933). Play dodgeball on trampolines, and meet Foothill students from other countries as you play an exciting game against your peers.No experience is necessary. Referees will be on-site to provide rules and referee the games.
