From the grand trees of Redwood National Parks in California to the magical landscape of Mount Huangshan in China and a vast variety of natural, cultural and industrial sites in between, the photography of Foothill College Photography Instructor Kate Jordahl, M.F.A, captures the spirit of place and showcases locales preserved and protected as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Kate Jordahl is an educator, photographer, editor and curator. Seeing inspires Jordahl and she exhibits her enthusiasm and passion for the art of photography in all of her work. In her travels and photography, she searches for the places where the spirit of the earth and the human spirit come together. Using both film and digital capture, she stretches her images beyond the expected representation to a magical and reverent imaging of the lands and cultures she visits. In addition to many group exhibitions, she has had featured exhibitions at Vision Gallery, San Francisco; Yamate Gallery, Yokohama, Japan; Olive Hyde Gallery, Fremont; Modernbook Gallery, Palo Alto; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artist's Gallery, San Francisco. Her photographs are in numerous collections, including the Bibliothque Nationale de France, Paris; Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, California; University of Texas at Dallas, Texas; and the Yosemite Museum, Yosemite. Her work is currently represented by Modernbook Gallery in San Francisco. She has lead photography groups in trips to Italy, France and Japan, as well as around the United States. Teaching inspires her and sharing her love of photography is her great joy. Making her photographs then sharing that process and helping others make their own photographs completes the circle of creativity for Kate.
