Foothill Music Theatre and the Foothill College Theatre Arts Department announce auditions for Damn Yankees Sunday, March 10, or Tuesday, March 12. Both audition sessions meet from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre (Room 1001) at Foothill College. Performers need only attend one audition session and should be prepared to stay for up to three hours. All roles are open and actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Roles are available for women and men. Performers should prepare 16-32 measures of a Broadway musical-style song that is not from Damn Yankees. You will be provided reading sides and asked to demonstrate movement/dance qualities. Bring your sheet music in the appropriate key, as well as a headshot and resume. This is a non-equity performance and offers no pay. Foothill College Theatre Arts Instructor Tom Gough, M.F.A., will direct Foothill's production of Damn Yankees. Based on the novel The Year The Yankees Lost The Pennant by Douglass Wallop, Damn Yankees tells the story of middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd who trades his soul to the Devil, also known as Mr. Applegate, for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life he's left behind. Joe ultimately outsmarts Applegate, returns to his former self, and shepherds the Senators to the World Series. The show was written by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop, with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. Callback audition is Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rehearsal begins June 10. The show runs July 26 through Aug. 18. Parking Lot 1 provides best access to audition venues. Alternately, and to avoid the stairs, you may park in Student Lot 5 and take the five minute, level walk to auditions. Parking regulations require a $3 parking permit at all times. Auditioners must purchase the required campus parking permit for $3. Purchase permit at dispensers in any student lot. Dispensers accept one-dollar bills and quarters. Avoid costly citations and purchase a permit. If you are cast in the show, you will receive a complimentary permit for the duration of the project. Foothill College is located off I-280 on El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills. For more audition information, access the audition link at www.foothill.edu/fa or call (650) 949-7268.
