U.S. Army Reserve Brigadier General Mitchell R. Chitwood, deputy commander of the 63rd Regional Support Command at Moffett Field, presents certificates of appreciation to Los Altos Rotary and Foothill College for outstanding commitment to serving veterans and their families during a visit to the Foothill College campus Aug. 8.
In addition to touring the new, state-of-the-art Foothill College Physical Sciences & Engineering Center, the group visited the on-campus Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and discussed Foothill services and educational programs for veterans, their spouses and their children.
Foothill's VRC provides veterans with a successful transition to academic studies and meets the unique needs of veterans, active duty personnel, reservists and military families. Last year, GI Jobs magazine listed Foothill College in the top 15 percent of colleges in the nation that offer the best experience for military students.
In addition to providing Foothill veteran-students with Livescribe smartpen assistive technology, Los Altos Rotary is raising funds to support the Friends of American Veterans Scholarship, which is specifically for Foothill veteran-students. The 63rd Regional Support Command provides base operation support and related support for all reserve personnel in the seven-state Southwest region of the U.S. with focus on command support functions, personnel support, soldier and family readiness programs, public works, facilities, maintenance support activities and resource management.
