| 1. Description - |
| Special topics or projects in any Child Development academic discipline or program area. Specific course and/or special projects vary each quarter depending upon selected student, population, methodology and faculty member.

| Student will be able to:
- Research a topic related to early childhood education and demonstrate understanding and application of that knowledge.
- Develop a project to demonstrate understanding and application of material.
- Exhibit improved knowledge and performance within the areas of student's responsibility in the field of early childhood education.

| 4. Course Content (Body of knowledge) - |
| Student will be able to:
- Research a topic related to early care and education and demonstrate understanding and application of that knowledge.
- Selected study areas of early childhood practice such as but not limited to these examples:
- Application of literacy research, including bilingualism, to infant and toddler care giving
- Cooking as a curriculum tool for teaching math and science concepts to young children
- Structuring an outdoor play environment to foster socialization among preschoolers
- Innovative parent education approaches
- Develop a project to demonstrate understanding and application of material.
- Research and implement a project which will positively impact an early childhood environment such as but not limited to:
- A bi-lingual curriculum for infants and toddlers incorporating high school students as volunteers
- An ongoing classroom cooking curriculum in which math and science concepts are integral to the children's enjoyment of the experiences
- Improving preschoolers' social interaction in an outdoor play environment incorporating no or low cost strategies.
- Develop a parenting library and monthly discussion group
- Exhibit improved knowledge and performance within the areas of student's responsibility in the field of early care and education.
- Teaching demonstrations
- Sharing of curricular materials related to the course topic
