Pass The Torch
Pass the Torch has moved! We are now located in the Tutorial Center,
Room #3526
Welcome to Pass The Torch. As you go through our Website you will
be introduced to Who We Are, review
the Program Description, our comprehensive
Q&A area, History,
Outcomes Data, Teams
"Shout Outs", Our Future, and,
Dissemination sections. You will learn how Pass The
Torch with its unique one on one study team emphasis has proven
itself quarter after quarter to be a program that makes a difference in Foothill
College students academic success.
Pass The Torch respects each students individuality. Our
students come from a wide variety of economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
They work together in teams to strive for the highest possible grade for each
individual member. Our primary goals are to see that every student in Pass The
Torch has the opportunity of success regardless of his or her past educational
experiences. Also we want to see our students move on to higher levels of
education using Pass The Torch as a stepping stone. Additionally, Pass The
Torch not only helps each student achieve his or her academic goals but it
is also a place on campus of pride, respect and yes, even fun.
Once again, welcome to our website. For further information, contact me.

Pass the Torch affected by budget cuts and program relocation
Many of you are well aware of the budget crisis affecting our Foothill-De Anza Community
College District and California as a whole. Regretfully, Pass the Torch was not immune to
these cuts and was notified on February 7, 2012 that we would be losing our Administrative
Assistant position, which Julie Brown is currently employed in. Julie has participated in
Pass the Torch for the last 12 years, first as a student staff, then hired four years ago
as a full time Classified Employee. Julie began her work under the program's founder
Dr. Jean Thomas and has been an indispensable attribute to the success of Pass the
Torch as a Program and to the thousands of students that have passed through our door.
We will truly miss her ever-positive attitude, warm and welcoming smile along with her
heartfelt concern for each individual student. Julie will continue to be employed with
the program until June 29, 2012. Pass the Torch will experience structural changes
in the way we operate, and the general day-to-day functions of the program, and we
ask you to bear with us.

Congratulations
Congratulations to all our Pass The Torch Graduating & Transferring students who attended last week's
"End of the Year Luncheon Celebration & Medallion Ceremony". It is always a great joy to see our Pass
The Torch students who have been with us from the beginning of their college experience here at Foothill
College moving forward. Students were very excited (as you can see from the photo) to receive their
medallions and commented on how they would wear them proudly at the commencement ceremony. We would
like to thank all of our Staff, Student Staff and Student Volunteers who helped make this event a
success. Congratulations once again to all and best of luck in your future endeavors!
