Welcome to Institutional Research and Planning at Foothill College!
Purpose
The purpose of Institutional Research and Planning is to provide information which leads to thoughtful and purposeful decision making for the improvement of student success and overall college planning. Institutional Research is a function of the Office of Instruction and Research and serves as a primary resource in building a culture of evidence. To accomplish this, the office conducts research and provides reports related to college initiatives, student learning outcomes and assessment, enrollment management, educational and facilities master planning, matriculation, and accreditation, as well as for purposes of state and federal reporting.
Institutional Research and Planning is staffed through the Foothill De Anza District Office of Institutional Research and Planning.
Research Advisory Group
- The Research Advisory Group will be convened in Fall 2009.
- This group is not a recommending or decision-making body. The group is convened by the Vice President of Instruction & Institutional Research and/or the College Researcher. This group advises on the college-wide research agenda and supports the integration of information and data into planning and decision-making.
- The group consists of the College Researcher, Vice President of Instruction and Institutional Research and experts in the areas of institutional data, reporting, and planning.
- The Research Advisory Group coordinates and communicates information, data, and research on the function and performance of the college, its programs and its students. Supports information needs throughout the integrated planning and budget cycles.
Priorities for Planning & Research
Information is a wonderful thing! Unfortunately, due to limited staffing we may not always be able to process your request. Please submit all requests as early as possible so that we can do all we can to assist you.
Priority for specific projects is determined based on how a request fits in with the following priorities:
- Internal requests (from within Foothill College and FHDA) will receive higher priority than requests from outside sources
- Projects assigned by the President or Chancellor
- Projects tied to the mission, strategic initiatives, and other college planning activities
- Projects to measure and improve educational success and curriculum
- Projects related to state and federal requirements
- Projects tied to external funding
Submitting a Request
An automated system is currently under development; in the meantime, please submit all requests as early as possible through the contact information below. Please include the following with all requests:
- Specifications for information needed (such as data fields, timeframe—annual or term, etc.). The more specific your request, the faster we will be able to respond
- Purpose for request (does this tie in with a strategic initiative? is this needed to meet a grant requirement?)
- Preferred timeline and last possible deadline
- Contact information for person making the request (follow-up may be required)
Please be aware that it is likely you may be asked to meet if this is the first time you have made this request. In person consultations allow for us to ask questions of clarification and ensure that we understand the request being made.
