See what the critics say...

Putting a modern sensibility in 'Our Town'; Director cuts the sentimentality, keeps the reality in Foothill Theatre production -- San Jose Mercury News

Wilder's 'Our Town' relevant as ever in 21st century America -- San Francisco Examiner

THE PLAY
Upon its opening in 1938, New York Times critic, Brooks Atkinson called Our Town "one of the finest achievements of the current stage... a hauntingly beautiful play." One of the most produced plays, through countless amateur productions and several Broadway revivals, the play has maintained its place in the pantheon of American theatre, continually praised by critics, scholars and theatregoers alike. Edward Albee referred to Our Town as "the finest serious American plays... it is a superbly written, gloriously observed, tough, and breathtaking statement of what it is to be alive, the wonder and hopeless loss of the space between birth and the grave."

Foothill's staging maintains the simplicity of style that was the hallmark of the play's original production. Minimal scenery and spectacle place the emphasis of the play where Wilder intended, on the relation between the countless details of everyday interactions and the great perspectives time and social history. Please join us as we bring Grover's Corners to life and make Our Town, your town.
