The Foothill College Theatre Technology Program prepares the theatre
student for entrylevel positions in professional and community theatre.
A comprehensive and intensive two-year program with a wealth of individual
instruction, Foothill's Theatre Technology offers the first-year student the
opportunity to explore the fundamentals of a wide variety of practical
career opportunities. Students interested in stage management, theatre
design of sets, props, costumes, lights, sound and scene painting are
able to participate in both daytime lecture and laboratory classes and
evening production experiences.
Technical theatre students are afforded
significant hands-on experience in fulfilling all of the technical
elements of the department's many productions, including the annual
full-scale summer musical. At the end of their first year, students can
choose a specific area to pursue as a specialty emphasis.
The second year of training gives students the opportunity to continue
more intensive study of theatre technology both through practical and
theoretical study in advanced classes as well as enrolling in an internship
program at one of several leading Bay Area theatre companies. Upon completion
of the Theatre Technology Program, students will have the necessary preparation
for applying directly to resident professional and community theatres for
entry-level positions or to further their education in a university
environment.
