Career & Transfer Center Mentor Program Dimension

PROGRAM DIMENSION

Part One: "Peer Mentor" matches you, as an MTP student planning to transfer in 2001-02, with a student mentor who is currently attending the university to which you are interested in transferring to. You will be matched with one university student who has transferred from Foothill and is currently attending the school of your choice. You are asked to meet or talk by phone at least 3 times each quarter or semester. You may exchange telephone numbers with this student, visit him/her on the university campus and maintain contact for the year. In return, this student shares their college experiences with you, and becomes a direct link between you and the university, while you are still attending foothill.

Part Two: "Faculty Mentor" matches you with a Foothill faculty members who will assists you with the non-technical aspects of your transition from Foothill to your four year university. You are asked to meet or talk by phone at least 3 times each quarter or semester. You may exchange telephone numbers with the faculty member, visit him/her at office hours on campus and maintain contact for the year. These instructors are valuable resources for you as you ponder the many decisions that faces transfer students in their last year at Foothill.

Please consider this program, because we know "Mentor Link" can make a considerable difference in the transfer rate of Foothill underrepresented and minority students.

If you have questions or will like to have a mentor, stop by the Career/ Transfer Center, or contact Joseph at (650) 949-7371.

Respectfully,

Joseph Francis
MTP Assistant Coordinator
