Alternative Media
Alternative media is any instruction related material which is converted or altered
from its original state into a different format so it is accessible and usable by
people with disabilities.
Types of Alternative Media Include:
- Electronic text
- Audio books
- Large print
- Braille
- Tactile graphics
To Qualify for Alternative Media, you Must:
- Be registered with DRC as a student with a disability
- Be referred by a DRC counselor
- Meet with our Assistive Technology Coordinator
- Proof of Purchase (I.e. receipt) for all requested material may be required.
Requesting Alternative Media:
To request alternative media, you will need to complete the request form on Clockwork. Below are directions. The visual guide for requesting Alternative Media is also available.
- Log in to MyPortal
- Locate the Clockwork Card. To quickly find Clockwork, you may type “Clockwork” in the search box in the top left corner.
- Select “Clockwork Foothill Disability Services”
- Click on “Alternate format textbooks”
- Click on “New Request” at the top of the menu bar
- Review the Confidentiality Agreement, click to check off “I agree” and click submit.
- Click on “Searching for Books” on the left sidebar. Search for your textbook by typing the title or ISBN without dashes. The ISBN is a 10-digit or 13-digit number to identify a book. It is typically found on the back of a physical book or in the product description of a book when bought online. After typing the ISBN or title, click on the magnifying glass to search for the book.
- Click on the plus (+) sign to add it to your “cart”
- You may search and add multiple textbooks in your “cart.” Click the shopping cart to “checkout.”
- Review your cart. Please upload your receipt for each book by clicking the green “Upload receipt” button. If you do not have your receipt ready, you may also email your receipt to the accommodations coordinator at lapitanmichelle@fhda.edu or log back on Clockwork in the future to upload the receipt. Click the shopping cart at the bottom right to submit your request.
- You will receive a confirmation page and an email when your request is completed.
Please note that students previously had to use a different alternative media request form. It is still available to use but will be phased out by the end of November 2025:
Delivery of Alternative Media
- After a student submits a request, the accommodations coordinator, Michelle Lapitan, will contact you about your request within 3 working days.
- Some requests take more time and it is encouraged to submit your request as early as possible.
- The alternative media requested will be delivered electronically, in the format that you indicated in your Alternative Media Request Form.
- Often students will use Assistive Technology (AT) to assist them in reading and studying electronic versions of printed materials. If you are interested in AT refer to our webiste Computer Access Center and Assistive Technology.
