Professor Hawes has a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University. Her research
was in synthetic biology. Professor Hawes' teaching philosophy is that discussion
and application help students to learn material for themselves. Each class ends with
a project that applies class material to real-world problems. When not teaching, her
son and her endless to-be-read list keep her busy.
Professor Nikolac has an MS from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering. He
has 38 years of industry experience working in defense electronics, telecommunications,
and medical devices. Students taking Professor Nikolac's courses can expect interactive
lectures with discussions of real-world experiences and lessons learned. Face-to-face
courses include guest lecturers on a variety of related topics, as well as a project.
Outside of class, Professor Nikolac enjoys woodworking (i.e., turning perfectly good
                                 pieces of wood into scrap and sawdust); playing online role-playing games; travel;
doing home electronics projects; and spending time with his grandchildren.

Professor Parikh has a Ph.D. from Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering, studying
Engineering Education. Students taking Professor Parikh's courses can expect interactive
lectures with discussions and activities in small groups. Each of Professor Parikh's
courses has a project. Outside of class, Professor Parikh enjoys cooking, reading,
and taking her kids to the park. Her goal is to support and inspire all students to
achieve their goals in school and in life.
Professor Edelstein received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Caltech. He has
more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor, laser, photonics, advanced
materials, and energy industries, is the founder of two technology companies, and
is author and co-author of 19 US patents. Students taking Professor Edelstein's courses
can expect a stimulating and participatory learning environment. Professor Edelstein
enjoys traveling with his wife, and cycling.
Professor Camisa has a M.S. from the University of Minnesota in Mechanical Engineering
where he specialized in design and a B.A. in Physics from Carleton College. Along
with a background in Physics and robotics, he has worked in industry doing medical
device research and development and currently works at a local GI device company.
Student's taking Professor Camisa's courses can expect a practical approach to learning
engineering concepts. Outside of work and class, Professor Camisa enjoys hiking, cycling,
traveling and playing handball at the South End club in San Francisco.
