Why the name MANAPUA?

MANAPUA stands for Mentorship & Academics Nexus Ascension Program Uplifting AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islanders).

Those in the know will also know that manapua is the Hawaiian name for pork buns, an adaptation of Chinese baozi buns.

Asian and Pacifika communities often use food as their love language. Families will often ask "have you eaten?" rather than "how are you?" and will show care and concern through offering food, fruits, and other nourishments.

Many of us learned important life lessons while sitting around a kitchen table with our friends and families or learning how to make traditional dishes from the previous generations. It's through these food traditions that our culture is passed down.

We invite you to join our MANAPUA program to help nourish your soul.
