Chemistry 1A Placement Survey

Our in-person Chemistry 1A placement exam is unavailable until further notice.

If you want to take Chemistry 1A, we offer two online placement options.

Chemistry 1A Prerequisite Requirements

Chemistry

Completion of Chemistry 20 or 25, OR the equivalent at another college/university (to be reviewed by Evaluations by submitting a prerequisite clearance request), OR a College Board AP Chemistry score of a 3 or higher (to be reviewed by Evaluations by submitting a prerequisite clearance request),

Option 1: Submit Prerequisite Clearance Request

If you completed Chemistry 20 or 25, OR the equivalent at another college/university OR received an AP Chemistry score of a 3, or higher, you may be able to submit a prerequisite clearance request to clear the chemistry prerequisite.

NOTE: You can also submit a prerequisite clearance request to clear the math prerequisite if you have eligible college courses and/or AP scores.

If you cannot clear the math prerequisite through Evaluations and you do not have a math placement through us, you will need to request one by emailing the Assessment Office at fhtesting@fhda.edu.

Option 2: Complete Placement Survey

If you completed chemistry at a U.S. high school, you may be able to clear the chemistry prerequisite for Chemistry 1A by completing a short online survey.

Please read the requirements below to see if you are eligible for Option 2:

Completed 1 year (2 semesters) of chemistry at a U.S. high school
Received a letter grade of a C, or higher, for both semesters
The chemistry course taken must have included a lab component
Submit an unofficial PDF copy of your high school transcript (or confirm that Admissions and Records has a copy of your official high school transcript on file).

Once you submit your request, it can take up to 5 business days to receive a determination.

De Anza Chemistry Test Score Transfer

Foothill College does not accept the transfer of De Anza Chem Exam scores.

Other Institutions

Foothill College does not accept placement test scores from the CSUs, UCs, or any other outside institutions.
