Enrollment Steps for Priority Registration
Priority registration is set up for first-time college students with a goal of obtaining their first degree or certificate.
See the Academic Calendar for priority enrollment registration dates for the current quarter.
If you have applied for admission, go to MyPortal to check YOUR registration date.
New Students
Follow Steps 1-6 to Receive Priority Registration
NOTE: . You will NOT be able to receive priority higher than Group 6 if you've previously attended college or university and/or received a degree. |
Apply
- Apply for admission.
- Do this as early as possible, even if you think you may attend another school.
- Keep all your options open, and keep your priority registration if you choose Foothill.
Declare a major - not "Undecided"
- Check out our Programs & Courses options to decide which major you want to declare on your admission application.
- Note: You can easily update your major in MyPortal after you've applied for admission.
Select a goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- To receive priority registration, you need to include an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate when you apply for admission.
Complete orientation
- You have three options to meet this requirement.
- Attend a SOAR workshop
- Take Counseling 5 (1-unit course)
- Complete Online Orientation
Meet Assessment Requirements
- See which assessment method is best for you
- If you've already completed some credit coursework at another college or university—and even if you are looking to only attend Foothill for a summer course, submit a Prerequisite Clearance form to Admissions and Records.
Create an *educational plan
*In order to fulfill this requirement, your student education plan (SEP) must include the term in which you plan to register. To meet with a counselor
- Schedule a 30-minute appointment with a counselor
OR - Attend Counseling Drop-In Session during Quick Question Hours. No appointment necessary.
Priority Enrollment Order
In accordance with state and local regulations, students will be assigned registration dates in the following order. (See academic calendar for priority registration dates for upcoming or current term.) Note asterisks below: *In order to fulfill this requirement, the student education plan (SEP) must include the term in which the student plans to register. Priority registration is set up for first-time college students with a goal of obtaining their first degree or certificate. You will NOT be able to receive priority higher than Group 6 if you've previously attended college or university and/or received a degree. |
Group 1: Veterans, Foster Youth, CalWORKs, DSPS, EOPS Students & Student Parents who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
- Declared a major
- Completed assessment, orientation, and an *educational plan
** Student Parent - Any student who has children under the age of 18 who will receive more than half of their support from that student.
Group 2: Student Athletes who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
- Declared a major
- Completed assessment, orientation, and an *educational plan
Group 3: Continuing students (including full time and part time) who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
- Declared a major
- Completed assessment, orientation, and an *educational plan
Group 4: New, fully matriculated college students who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate
- Declared a major
- Completed assessment, orientation, and an *educational plan
Group 5: New, non-matriculated college students who have
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate;
- and declared an academic major
- BUT have not completed assessment, orientation or an educational plan.
Group 6: Transfer students (from any other college) and returning students who have
- Completed one term at Foothill College
- Have selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate;
- Declared an academic major
- Have already transfered or completed 100 units within or outside of Foothill College
Group 7: All other college students, including continuing students who have not
- Declared a major
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
- Have already transfered or completed 100 units within or outside of Foothill College
- Has fallen into Academic Probation (must have two consecutive terms in Good Standing to move up date)
Group 8: Dually-enrolled high school students who are
- freshman, sophomores, juniors or seniors or meet other criteria to attend Foothill College.
